Afrobeat, jazz, reggae & soul.
AfroSync fuses four traditions into one live sound. Rooted in the Afrobeat of Fela Kuti, shaped by jazz and reggae, and carried by soul. It is culturally rich, genuinely rare, and built to fill a floor.
What is Afrobeat?
Afrobeat is a genre pioneered in Nigeria in the late 1960s and 1970s, most famously by Fela Kuti, fusing West African highlife and traditional rhythms with jazz and funk. It is defined by interlocking percussion, warm brass and a deep, driving groove. AfroSync draws on this classic Afrobeat tradition and blends it with jazz, reggae and soul.
Four threads, one sound
Where it comes from.
Afrobeat
Pioneered in Nigeria by Fela Kuti, Afrobeat is horn-driven, percussion-heavy and built on a deep, hypnotic groove. It is the engine of the AfroSync sound: relentless, warm and made to move a room.
Jazz
Jazz brings the sophistication and the freedom. Live improvisation means no two performances are the same, and the musicianship reads as genuinely elite to a discerning audience.
Reggae
Reggae adds space, warmth and that unmistakable one-drop feel. It is the thread that makes the sound as comfortable at a relaxed drinks reception as on a full evening floor.
Soul
Soulful grooves and, with vocalist May, lead vocals that carry the room. This is the emotional centre of the show, and the part guests remember.
The instruments
Played by hand.
The AfroSync Trio is built around piano, saxophone and djembe. For moments no covers band can offer, we bring out traditional African instruments: the marimba, the mbira and the talking drum. Add lead vocals from May and the trio becomes a full fronted show.
Why it works
Sophisticated and euphoric.
The sound sits between refined and euphoric, which is exactly why it suits the full range of premium events. It carries a black-tie corporate gala with poise, brings genuine warmth to a luxury wedding, and turns a private celebration into something people talk about long afterwards. Explore how it works for weddings, corporate events and private parties.
